Keep Phones "Away For The Day" At School

Away for the day

"Away For The Day" (AFTD) is a movement giving you — parents, teachers, community leaders, and concerned individuals — tools so that you can go to your school and help institute policies where devices are put away all day at school in lockers, backpacks, or turned in.

What is Away For The Day?

The team behind the award-winning Screenagers documentary series has developed the "Away For The Day" initiative to help transform schools into cell phone-free spaces.

We hear every day from parents, teachers, and principals around the country who show our movies in their community that cell phones and other technologies like smartwatches and video games are creating a huge distraction in schools, and they are ready for change.

Within just the first 3 weeks of school, we've actually had students email us about other students bringing out phones in the back of the classroom. Students have been very cooperative and I think they understand the "why" of what we're doing. We can't tell you how much we've been thanked by staff - this school year has just had a completely different positive feel to it.

Things are much better! Parents who attended the orientation before school started to applaud when we announced the change. Teachers are raving about the better classroom atmosphere they feel the new policy promotes. Kids are not balking and I truly think they are enjoying the forced down-time.
